Abstract

Introduction: Abdominoperineal resection following radiotherapy is accompanied by a high rate of complications of the perineal wound.

Objective: Present the results of perineal reconstruction with rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap and a vertical skin island in two patients after exeresis of two previously irradiated rectal cancers (one each).

Clinical case: Two clinical cases are presented of anorectal cancer reconstructed with vertical rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap, one of whom developed local infection. The female case was resolved without any difficulty.

Conclusions: In the cases presented, anorectal cancer patients were offered a reconstruction option with a low index of perineal complications, and faster rehabilitation of the treated area and of the patients, showing the usefulness of the technique used.
