Hyalinizing Ovarian Stromal Tumor

Authors

Abstract

Introduction: Hyalinizing stromal cell tumor is a sex cord-stromal neoplasm of the ovary. It is a rare, a benign disease. Most women present gynecological manifestations such as menstrual irregularity and pelvic or abdominal mass associated with discomfort or pain. In addition, other characteristics such as hormonal activity, anovulation, infertility, virilization, ascites and Meigs syndrome are present.

Objective: To describe a case of hyalinizing or sclerosing ovarian stromal tumor.

Clinical case: A 30-year-old female patient came to the clinic due to involuntary loss of urine, heaviness and pain at the pelvic level with menstrual alterations. The physical examination was normal, except for the gynecological apparatus where an 8 cm solid tumor was palpated in the left ovary, confirmed by imaging studies. The patient's hemochemistry was normal. A left oophorectomy was performed in which a 7 x 6 x 6 cm tumor compatible with a hyalinizing ovarian stromal tumor was obtained.

Conclusions: Hyalinizing ovarian stromal tumor is rare, benign in behavior and rarely functional. Physicians who care for women should think about this disease and other tumors with the same clinical behavior is present. It must be differentiated from other stromal tumors. Histopathological examination is essential in the diagnosis of this tumor, whose treatment is always surgical.
